We had gone to meet Paki Hegde and happen to chance upon him before we could talk to Paki.īald yet beautiful he was dressed in a checks shirt and shorts and was just returning from a programme in a FM radio, a promotional exercise, when team drew him into a conversation. V Manohar who hails from Vittal (V stands for Vittal) was in Mangalore recently for the music CD release of the Tulu film “Bangarada Kural” for which he has provided music and has written lyrics to 4 of the 7 songs. Though I had known him during his stint as a cartoonist in “Mungaru”, Kannada Daily in the mid 80’s having worked in the same organization, it was the first time I was meeting him face to face ever since he has acquired an aura as a celebrity in sandalwood. An entertaining one, it is based on the characterizations rather than being generic. It was by sheer coincidence that I met V Manohar, a well established and popular name in sandalwood having made his presence felt in important aspects of film making - as music director, lyricist, film director and actor. The music director makes it a mellowed song that doles out its offbeat vibes in a breezy manner. Kasarla Shyam whips up the lines based on the characters and the story. The song blends the mildness of its tenor with the quirkiness of its lyrics. Music-wise, it is a minimalist song that is catchy and enjoyable. Rahul Sipligunj's voice is a bit mellowed and is not overly energetic, thankfully. Kasarla Shyam's lyrical quality is intact, as he gets witty with the pen. Conceptually, it is like the title song of the early 2000s Kannada TV serial 'Danda Pindagalu'. The song is about how useless the titular characters are. Radhan's music is right on the money, lending the song an aura of simplicity. Ram Miriyala's voice is refreshing, as it is offbeat and sits well with the overall mood. The lyrics are imaginative, coming with the usage of words like 'Teen maar', that are rooted in the characters. In this section, we review the album, which is currently streaming on Lahari Music.Īs a male-centric romantic song, 'Chitti' is thoroughly quirky. Composed by Radhan, the three-song album is lively. The full jukebox of 'Jathi Ratnalu' is out.
